Professor Armenakis' research has been funded by various organizations, including Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) (DG, RTI, Engage), the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), Canadian Space Agency, Mitacs, NRCan, the National Research Council (NRC), Ontario Ministry of Transportation, Transportation Safety Board of Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Ontario MCI, Industry partners, and York University.
Professor Armenakis is a Fellow of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS). He served as President of the ISPRS Technical Commission IV on Digital Mapping and GeoDatabases (2000-2004) and was Conference Chair and Organizer for the UAV-g 2015 International Conference on Unmanned Vehicles in Geomatics. He has received several awards and serves on the editorial boards of several journals.
He is the Co-Editor and Chapter Author of the book Unmanned Vehicle Systems for Geomatics: Towards Robotic Mapping, and the Associate Editor and Chapter Author, Chapter 4 Unmanned Aerial Systems for Low-Altitude Remote Sensing, ASPRS Manual of Remote Sensing, 4th edition.
